Sand Dunes in Japan
Tottori Dune

Sandboarding experiences and lessons at the Tottori Sand Dunes can be booked through the Tottori Sand Dunes Sandboard School (sandboard.jp). It is the only place in Japan where you can sandboard inside a national park.

This photo shows Green of Sand Sports Japan sandboarding in Tottori for the very first time,
riding in snowboard wear in winter. The photo is from 2001.
The riding felt seriously fast, so we drew up a proposal and won first prize in Tottori City's "Discover Tottori" competition.
Thanks to that competition win, we were granted special permission to ride inside the national park (a dream three years in the making!). Please never sandboard in the prohibited zones. Thank you for your cooperation.

Then, in 2005, my dream of holding a sandboard competition in Japan came true.
With the kind support of Nihonkai Telecasting Service, a programme about the competition
was even broadcast on Kinki TV. Today Tottori City holds the event every year.
Entry is open to everyone, so please come and take part!

You can sandboard even on rainy days. In fact it is ideal, because nobody else is around
and you can enjoy the dunes at your ease. The boards run fast too, and with special
rain wax they slide even faster.

The sunsets at the Tottori Sand Dunes are exceptional — looking out over the Sea of Japan,
they are truly beautiful. And of course, you can sandboard all year round.

The competition attracts plenty of magazine coverage — we were even featured in Shukan Shincho!
Remember you can contact Sand Sports Japan at any time if you need help getting to any of these locations or require more information or a sandboard. We also appreciate any input regarding these locations.
