Shizuoka , Shimoda, Touji Sand Skiing Area

This dune is fairly steep, making nice fast runs easy. It sits right along the national highway, so it is easy to find, and the car park has free parking in the off-season months of September to June. The dune is right on the beach, so in summer you can combine sandboarding with a swim, and those who are not interested in boarding can enjoy the sea instead.
If you're going by car, put the destination in your car navigation, or go from Atsugi Interchange via Odawara and Atami to Shimoda. Follow Highway 135 (which later becomes Highway 136) along the Shirahama coastline, heading out of Shimoda city. There is a sign for Touji (田牛) on the left just after the seawater onsen. Turn left at the Ohama-Touji T-junction traffic light, pass Kisami-Ohama swimming beach and keep going; just after the 4th tunnel there is a sign for the sand skiing area (サンドスキー場) on the left. The trip takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes.
You can go by direct train from Tokyo JR station. Get on the Odoriko Super Express and get off at Izukyu-Shimoda. The journey takes about 2 hours 45 minutes. Then take the bus bound for Touji from stand number 2 and get off at the Nagaiso stop, right by the dune as soon as you hit the beach. This takes about 15 minutes.
Remember you can contact Sand Sports Japan at any time if you need help getting to any of these locations or require more information or a sandboard. We also appreciate any input regarding these locations.
